Manchester United deny rumors of Jadon Sancho's comeback

Manchester United have dismissed claims of Jadon Sancho’s imminent return.

The club’s coach, Erik ten Hag, unintentionally caused confusion when he misspoke during a press conference, mentioning ‘Sancho’ instead of ‘Sergio’ on Monday, October 23.

Ten Hag was responding to a question about the team’s status before the upcoming Champions League match against Copenhagen.

He mentioned, “We hope. Sergio has been fit and has trained throughout the week. Today, he will train and then we will have to evaluate his readiness for the game.”

This led to confusion as many, both present at the conference and watching remotely, misheard ‘Sancho’ instead of ‘Sergio’, prompting a journalist to inquire about the winger’s situation.

In response, Ten Hag stated, “We have to assess whether he is fit enough to be part of the squad for tomorrow.”

The club later clarified that the manager was actually referring to left-back Sergio Reguilon, who was making a comeback to first-team action after an injury.

The club confirmed at the end of the press conference that the manager’s reference was indeed about Reguilon, who had resumed training following a hamstring injury.

Sancho had been relegated to training with Manchester United’s academy teams at their Carrington training complex after the £73 million England winger indirectly accused Ten Hag of dishonesty for being excluded from the United squad against Arsenal on September 3.

Ten Hag cited Sancho’s performance in training before the match as the reason for his exclusion.

Refuting this in a social media post, Sancho claimed he was being made a ‘scapegoat’.

Since then, Sancho has declined to offer the apology demanded by his manager and shows no intention of backing down.
